Was This The Riskiest Wedding Speech Ever?

One Scottish groom lived up to the nation’s reputation for bravery at his wedding reception this summer. Some might even say it was foolhardy, but fortunately the big-hearted bride saw the funny side of her new husband’s ‘humorous’ wedding speech.

The Daily Star reports that James and Rachel Beattie recently got married at Dalduff Farm in Ayreshire. As family and friends settled themselves into the rustic wedding venue for a celebratory dinner, the groom got to his feet to make a passionate and inspiring speech. So far, so good.

However, things took a ‘hilarious’ turn when the groom dedicated his speech to his beloved…football team manager. Yes, that’s right, the declaration of love and devotion was made to Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Celtic.

During the speech, which was shared on social media, James says: "To the person who makes me happy every time I see their face, the person who reminds me to appreciate the little things in life, who's made me believe that anything's possible.”

"You have truly turned my life around in such a short space of time and I love you for it. Turning to his guests, James continues: "I would highly recommend you all find someone that makes you feel the way that I do, so I would very much appreciate it if you could all raise a glass... to big Ange Postecoglou".

Was this a clever and funny micky take of soppy wedding speeches, or a grave insult which spoilt the tone of the special day? Fortunately, the bride seemed to take the former point of view, laughing along with the guests. It could all have gone so very wrong…

If you are looking for a less dangerous way to lighten the proceedings on your big day, we very much recommend having some fun with a magic mirror photobooth in Buckinghamshire!
